"Siticibo is the first project that applies the italian Law 155/2003 and has the objective to recover both cooked and raw food leftovers from organized catering (hotels, enterprises, schools and hospital's canteens, etc.). From 2009 the program recovers food also from Large Distribution. In detail, from the enterprises' canteens is collected cooked food only if they are equipped with a temperature cutter; from schools' canteens it is mainly collected fruit, bread and long storage deserts; from supermarkets all the fresh products as fruit, vegetables, cheeses and salamis, meat and yogurt). The collected products are delivered with refrigerated trucks to the conventioned charity structures that are near to the collection points for immediate consumption. Siticibo is a social service that every day is offered in the respect of hygiene and guaranteeing food security."
The project is directed by the Banco Alimentare Onlus that reunites other 21 territorial organizations (one for each region).
